Great wee video mate, cheers from NZ 😎 Once i can justify it, ill probably get a wee 4 or 5 wt for small dries and nymphs, my current go to 6 weight does everything ok, with leader/tippet adjustment, bht a 4 or 5 will drop a dry more gently, whilst still doing ok with a bit of wind i think

what length of leader do you use with a Versa Tip. Always the same length as you use with t-6 t-9 or t-17 ?

I like backpacks, because it holds more than angler stuff, but I would like a bag for just fishing gear, but then I would end up putting it back and forth between them

This is a great video, pretty much a master class for hitting BC trout rivers! My personal setup when I hit this river was a 3wt trout spey for swinging/stripping, and then a 10' 3wt with a dry fly line with my mono rig on top so I could quickly switch between dry and nymphing by swapping it for a tapered leader.

Plz dont share where that spot is. I dont even know but i dont like knowledge like that being shared online. iv'e seen so many nice areas ruined because of it.

Was in this exact spot not long ago. Bunch of bull trout hammered the swung fly. To. Of rainbows as well. Spent a few days there and lost count of fish. Best trout fishing I’ve seen there or anywhere for that matter. Thanks for sharing your knowledge matt 🍻

I wish I had the money for some of those. I run a Piscifun Fishing Sling Tackle Bag that I found on Amazon now. Due to some issues that I've had while wading, I refuse to go without an emergency hypothermia kit. The pack is huge as it can carry about 3 3700 series tackle trays which cover an extra layer, heavier gloves, and my emergency kit along with all the trout or creek tackle I could ask for, I'm also very extra and run 2 or 3 rods always.

Interesting review and testing. I agree with your thought regarding Tri-Color lines. Recently, I purchased a two-color version of Perception and added two six-inch black zones using a Sharpe. The first zone was at the midpoint of the head and the second was at the end of the head. Doing this approximates the benefit of the tri-color version and makes it easier to find the optimal load point when casting. Here's my opinion regarding SA vs Rio lines. For freshwater, I prefer SA, in particular their Smooth Creek line. However, for saltwater, I like Rio with SlickCast. Comparing Bonefish Quickshooter to Orvis Saltwater Allrounder (with AST Plus) makes it easy to see and feel just how much better the Rio line is when casting. For those who aren't aware, Orvis owns SA.

Maybe 4 or 5 years of these regs.puts enough spawners on the beds to maintain this abundance with proper management thereafter. Dfo. Yeah iknow...

Question, i just bought a mooching/centerpin rod. Im going to use it on the vedder to drift fish and im pairing it with a spinning reel(i know the first eye is not designed for a spinning). Other than the fact that i cant cast super far, will this be ok??

I got my first one this year I didn't want one at all. Now my backpack has to much stuff in it. I need to down size but never a hip packs I still remember that 80's me sling pack only. The Real tree is nich at Walmart $25 only. Nice looking bag.

Just came across your channel. Very nice work. I’m from SW Pennsylvania and use a lot of jigs for steelhead in Erie. I’ve thought about trying them in Alaska on our trips up there the past few years but guides said won’t work. Have you ever used them in Alaska, specifically Kenia River?

If you’re scared of your Florida cutting through your mono why not just use double uni knot?

I'm a fish pathologist, Outdoor & Science writer, part time river guide since 1978 and a very successful Steelhead and Salmon angler since 1973. Moreover, I used to have respect for your channel. Now I must really question your knowledge or lack thereof, after hearing you say, "Salmon rarely feed on the surface"!!! The Greatest majority of us, fish for Salmon and Steelhead, in Freshwater, not in the Ocean!! Anadromous fish, absolutely Do Not Feed after returning to their rivers of origin to spawn!! That's true for all anadromous fish of the genus Oncorhynchus and Sea Trout (Salmo trutta), plus Atlantic Salmon!!!! Wow it seems that everyone with a UA-cam channel, has now become a Self-professed expert!! I'm certain that I won't get one of those cute "social media-Hearts" from you and of course, I'm unsubscribing from your channel!!

Great teaching video!

This is a great video! I've been fly fishing on and off for many many years, largely self-taught. Never have another "set of eyes" to watch me cast and offer tips and advice. Gets frustrating. Seeing small improvements tho but crossed a big hurdle last summer on casting thanks to these types of vids!!

honestly no 1 pack can solve it all. it just deppends on your needs. i have 1 of each and rotate them in and out as needed. if its a quick trip, hippack wins. if its a day trip sling is a great choice. if its a long hike for the day, backpack+chest pack is the way im going to go.
